Legal residents of Nicaragua

During our time living in Nicaragua, we have become familiar with the process used to issue visas to foreigners.  To legally live in Nicaragua long term we need to make sure we always have a valid visa.  There are two common types of visas missionaries use to live in Nicaragua; a tourist visa and the visa that our family uses which is called a resident visa.  There are two types of resident visas, a one year and a five year.  In the past it was possible for anyone to apply for the five year visa, but in recent years they have only been giving five year visas to families that have had a baby in Nicaragua, individuals who move to Nicaragua to retire, and families that have adopted a Nicaraguan child.  We started working on pulling together the necessary paperwork to apply for our annual resident visa in May and yesterday, after spending a couple hours in the immigration office, we received this year's resident visa.  We can now legally stay in Nicaragua until July of 2015.  We are thankful that we were able to receive another annual visa without much difficulty and we are praying that with our adoption of Daniel we will be able to receive a five year resident visa when we apply next year.
