An earthquake shook us up about an hour ago. I watched the cars on the street rock back and forth as I was standing outside when it hit. Several things fell over in our house, but the only thing that broke was Rebekah's porcelain duck.
Thank you for your prayers for our family and for the people of Nicaragua. |

Adopting Daniel: Lisa enjoyed celebrating her birthday with all of the kids at the orphanage where Daniel currently lives. We brought cake and a pinata with us for the celebration; this is a picture of Daniel taking his turn with the pinata. We are thankful for our many friends in the US that have been helping us get the paperwork we need from Iowa, Michigan, and Ohio. We are still waiting for some of the documents to arrive in Nicaragua, please pray with us that they will all arrive soon. |

We have continued having earthquakes in Managua, many of which are strong enough that we feel the shaking. Schools are canceled this week due to the earthquake activity. There has been some damage to houses in the poorer neighborhoods and many Nicaraguans have been sleeping outside of their houses. We are thankful that our house and NCA are well built and have not been damaged by the earthquakes. Please continue to pray for NCA, our family, and the many Nicaraguans who have been impacted by the earthquakes. |

Adopting Daniel: We were very excited to have the last piece of our paperwork from the states arrive yesterday! Lisa brought them in today to get the official translation started. They should be ready to deliver to the adoption agency in a little over a week. We are thankful to God for answering our prayers for quick and safe delivery of all our documents! |

What's missing...
Our students!!!
As you can see from the empty desks in the picture our students are not at school right now, in fact, we are now starting our third week without students on campus. The earthquakes and tremors have stopped, but the city of Managua has remained on red alert. The President of Nicaragua issued a decree last week that due to the red alert status in Managua no schools are allowed to have students on campus.
This created a dilemma for us...because NCA is a US accredited school we need to complete 180 days of school each year. Many of our teachers and students have already purchased airplane tickets to fly to the US for the summer and so it would be difficult for us to add days to the end of our school year. We made the decision to have school "online" for now. Our teachers have been preparing lessons that our students are able to complete through email. This has been challenging for our teachers, our students, and our parents. We are praying that we would be able to return to regular classes next week. |
